Hardwoods

Oak hardwood has a grain pattern that waves.  Depending on the way it was sawn at the mill it could have a tight grain pattern called rift and quarter, it could have knots and knots with holes and is termed #2 common.  Oak without any knots is called a clear grade oak.

Douglas – Fir grain is generally straight or slightly wavey with a medium to coarse texture.  It can be stained a variety of colors and has a particular antique look with skipped planned texturing.  Follow this link for textured wood.  Douglas- Fir textures

Hickory has heartwood that tends to be light to medium brown, with a reddish hue; sapwood is a paler yellowish brown.   Her grain is straight but sometimes wavey with a medium texture.  Hickory textures

Walnut has a  heartwood that ranges from a lighter pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks. Color can sometimes have a gray, purple, or reddish cast. Sapwood is nearly white. and Its grain is usually straight but can be irregular with a medium texture and moderate natural luster.  Walnut textures
